Interestingly, Cleary uses a similar argument in her Atlantic piece: You will be hard pressed to find a better collection of professors offering the education they do for such a low price. Good writing breaks these rules all the time, and following all the rules does little if anything to make bad writing good.
This makes the assigned readings east and doable, even when offline. This is the professors allowing those new to the college environment to familiarize themselves with college-level requirements and course work. So why worry about grammar at all if it has nothing to do with good writing?
Because it is an online school, the tests are often open-book. And focusing on grammar instruction may distract from the more fundamental writing issues of rhetoric and composition.
Last week in the Atlantic, Michelle Navarre Cleary wrote that we should do away with diagramming sentences and other explicit grammar instruction. In short, we need to teach grammar as something to love.
But I worried that this was how people saw me: They are all bsing college essays in PDF format, and can be transferred to your tablet or phone. The professors are rigorous in their grading and in their requirement to adhere bsing college essays whichever respective format they require of their students.
For those with IT experience we can get around these things but others in the degree program may not know where to look and WGU needs to do a better job of laying this information out. They are timed, so if you have not completed the readings you are likely not to do well.
Because AMU is regionally accredited, any school in the US will recognize their degrees when pursuing higher education. It is true that, in the first classes on your degree path, you may encounter slight leeway.
Many are published, and may even use their own writing to supplement the course materials. Was this review helpful? Luckily for me, my mentor understands and we "flex" a bit on what WGU prefers we do. The certifications can allow someone still working on the degree to gain valuable skills and credentials to possibly land a job before even getting their degree.
There is no coddling; you must be self-motivated and complete the assignments given to you on your own. When I started the website had a few bugs but most have been worked out now and things are much better just over the last 12 months.
There are still some things WGU needs to work out when it comes to some of the curriculum and tracks they offer. Was this review helpful?
The practical process for the database courses I found to be confusing and the Java class practical is a bit much for an entry level Java class.
I looked for about a year at various options to finish my 4 year degree and ultimately wanted something online that was flexible and reasonably priced.
Instead of forcing students to take a python class and a java class they should offer a track You earn valuable industry standard certifications along the way which are part of your tuition and the degree you get is accredited.
I can assure you the courses become quite challenging as you move along your degree plan. The finance office has never given me any problems whatsoever, the counselors are helpful and responsive, and the schoolwork has been both challenging and rigorous.
Most American military personnel swear by AMU, and for good reason. These courses are designed with adults in mind, and the school expects you to manage your time like and adult and seek help like an adult.
Combine this with the certifications you get and this is a tremendous educational value. I once had a friend who was apparently afraid to talk to me because she thought I was silently correcting everything she said.
And we need to teach grammar not as something to hate or even as something to learn as a means to an end, but as a fascinating and complex system to be discovered and explored for its own sake. The cost of WGU is much less than nearly any other online or brick and mortar school, and the more classes you want to take in a semester the less you pay and faster you get done.
I learned hardly any sentence diagramming until I got to college, and my public school education in grammar effectively stopped in eighth or ninth grade when I learned what a prepositional phrase was. The readings are excellent and thorough. This is not the case. GrammarWriting Tags:reviews of Western Governors University written by students.
